Mystery Snail Quick-Care Guide
(Pomacea diffusa - - - the Peaceful Mystery Snail)
From “Trumble Treasures”
πΏ Welcome to the Snail Family!
Thank you for giving a peaceful little Mystery Snail a loving home. These gentle creatures bring calm beauty to any aquarium and deserve thoughtful care. This quick guide will help you create the perfect home for your new shelled friend.
π§ Tank Basics
• Tank Size: Minimum 5 gallons per snail, they’re big waste producers!
• Water Quality: Keep clean, stable water; ammonia = 0, nitrites = 0, nitrates < 40 ppm.
• Temperature: 72–80°F
• pH: 7.2–8.2
• Hardness: Moderate; avoid soft water (it weakens shells).
• Filtration: Gentle but effective, they enjoy calm water but need good circulation.
π©΅ Behavior & Compatibility
• Plant Safe: They don’t eat healthy plants, just dying leaves and algae.
• Tankmates: Peaceful fish (tetras, guppies, mollies, cory cats, shrimp). Avoid aggressive species, especially loaches.
• Social Life: Can live alone or with others, but they love exploring their environment.
π Feeding Facts
• Mystery snails are not algae-eating machines, they need real food!
• Feed once daily or every other day, removing uneaten food after a few hours.
• Favorites: Blanched veggies (green beans, spinach, zucchini, slices of sweet potato), algae wafers, shrimp pellets, and calcium-rich foods for healthy shells.
π Bonus Tips
• Calcium: Add a cuttlebone or calcium supplement to strengthen shells.
• Lids: They can climb — keep your lid closed or water level a bit low.
• Tankmates breeding? No worries! Mystery snails can’t reproduce without both a male and female.
